Tuya Smart Platform Firmware Upgrade and Order Placement Guide

Firmware needs to be upgraded to meet the industry's overall requirements for new technology and security and keep pace with the industry trends. The upgrade will enable Tuya to provide new features and support customers with new product selling points to satisfy consumer needs.

Reasons for Firmware Upgrade

  1. Upgrade Tuya's official general-purpose firmware for released solutions.

  2. Upgrade customers' product firmware to add new product selling points.

  3. Upgrade Tuya's baseline firmware version to upgrade common features.

Permission to Upgrade Firmware

Only product owners can upgrade the firmware. If your account is authorized, contact the authorizing party to determine whether to upgrade the firmware, perform relevant operations, and then purchase products such as modules.

Recommended Method for Handling Firmware that Tuya Has Not Released

Step 1

The preceding figure shows that the required firmware has not been released. In this case, contact Tuya for assistance.

Step 2

To upgrade your firmware, contact Tuya directly, or choose Support > Tech Chat and click ask to submit a "firmware upgrade request".

In the displayed dialog box, enter the product ID (PID) of your currently unreleased firmware.

Recommended Methods for Handling Firmware that Tuya Has Released

MCU General-Purpose Firmware or Firmware for SoC OEM Connection Solutions

The following figure shows the firmware upgrade process.

Upgrade Method 1: Recommended Upgrade

This method allows you to determine whether to upgrade the firmware before placing a bulk order.

If you click Purchase sample module, test the modules and then click Update version. You can then place a bulk order and update the firmware of your newly placed product. The firmware upgrade will only take effect for the activated users of your new product. + If you click Purchase current version, you can order the mass-produced modules that use the old firmware version. If you click Update version directly, the system will automatically upgrade the firmware. You can then purchase the mass-produced modules that use the new firmware version.

The preceding figure shows that the firmware upgrade was successful and that you can place bulk orders.

Upgrade Method 2: Forced Upgrade

This method requires the firmware to be upgraded before you can place a bulk order. Typically, key technical upgrades use the forced upgrade method.

Click Update version. The system will automatically upgrade the firmware. You can then purchase the mass-produced modules that use the new firmware version.

Custom Firmware

When a new Tuya baseline version of firmware is available, upgrade your firmware as follows.

Upgrade Method 1: Recommended Upgrade

This method allows you to determine whether to upgrade the firmware before placing a bulk order.

If you click Purchase current version, you can order the mass-produced modules that use the old firmware version. If you click Update version, the system will automatically submit an upgrade application to a Tuya project manager, who will communicate with you, perform embedded development, and either send you a sample for testing or conduct an OTA test. If the test is successful, the project manager will help you upgrade the product firmware in the platform background. You can then purchase the mass-produced modules that use the new firmware version on the platform.

After the application is submitted, you can still order modules that use the old firmware version. + After your custom firmware is upgraded, the platform displays a message to notify you of the successful firmware upgrade. Click OK. The new firmware version is available. You can then order modules that use the new firmware version.

Upgrade Method 2: Forced Upgrade

This method requires the firmware to be upgraded before you can place a bulk order. Typically, key technical upgrades use the forced upgrade method.

Click Apply to upgrade. The system will automatically submit an upgrade application to a Tuya project manager, who will communicate with you, perform embedded development, and either send you a sample for testing or conduct an OTA test. You can then purchase the mass-produced modules that use the new firmware version on the platform.
