Create Products

Before panel configuration, you need to select a product category and a development solution as well as complete the basic information and function definition.


Step 1: Select a category

  1. Log in to the Tuya IoT Platform.

  2. On the homepage of the Tuya IoT Platform, click Create.

  3. You can select categories with the following two methods:

    • Method 1: Select your desired category from the present categories. For example, click Small Home Appliances and select Heater.

    • Method 2: If you are not sure which category a product belongs to, you can click the search icon in the top right corner on the Create Product page, and enter a category name in the search box.

Step 2: Select the development mode

At present, Tuya provides Zero-Coding Development and Custom Solution. You can select the solution as needed.

  • Zero-Coding Development: You only need to create a product and purchase the corresponding module to complete the development. Zero-Coding Development only applies to products of some categories, such as sockets and lighting products.

  • Custom Solution: You need to implement product application logic by yourself, and use MCU SDK or module SDK to connect and manage the device and the cloud. This is a more flexible development method.

    Note: If you use the Custom Solution to develop gateway devices, you must select the upstream and downstream protocols.

    • The upstream protocol establishes the communication between the gateway device and the cloud. That is the Communication Protocol. Wi-Fi is selected by default.
    • The downstream protocol establishes the communication between the gateway device and the sub-devices. That is the Protocol Type.

Step 3: Complete basic information of the product

Enter the following information:

  • Product Name (required): You define it by yourself. For example, XXX (brand) + XXX (product) + XXX (module model).

  • Product Model (optional): You enter a product model to distinguish different products. For example, XXX (AE1123).

  • Protocol Type: You select the protocol type according to your product requirement. If the product you create is not supported by your required protocol, you can submit an online technical ticket to contact Tuya.

  • Power Consumption: Standard Power Consumption is selected by default.

    Note: You make sure you have selected your desired protocol, which determines the network module we will deliver to you.

Step 4: Define the product function

After you create a product, you can add functions to this product, including Standard Functions, Custom Functions, and Advanced Cloud Functions.

  • Standard Functions

    Common functions of the product category. Please refer to Standard Functions for details.

  • Custom Functions

    Note: Custom Functions are only for products developed with Custom Solution.

    If you cannot find your desired functions in Standard Functions, you can create your custom functions. Data point (DP) is the abstract representation of a device function, and each function can be defined by its data type. Please refer to Custom Functions for details.

  • Advanced Cloud Functions

    Advanced Cloud Functions are based on the cloud and do not require hardware embedded development. The current Advanced Cloud Functions include CloudTiming and Jumping page. Please refer to Cloud Functions for details.

    • CloudTiming: set on/off time and weekly schedules without hardware embedded development.

    • Jumping page: navigate to another page, such as the online store and user guide.

Step 5: Select a device panel

For more information about the panel, see Terms.

  1. Select the desired panel as needed.

    Note: Templates marked with Enterprise version are only available for enterprise accounts. You can upgrade your account to experience more templates.

  2. Scan the QR code on the right side with the RN Panel Dev app to add the virtual device of the product to the app.

    Note: You click Change on the right side to the selected panel to change the panel.
